Bear is a 5-year-old pup who was dumped on the west side of Chicago. He ran the area for months, crossing very busy streets several times a day. A concerned neighbor tried to secure him on many occasions, but he was far too skittish to be caught. He began to leave food for him in an abandoned lot, and he stayed in the area. He made a post on Facebook asking for help. I got out there the following day and set up my trap and camera. It took a couple of days, but Bear finally went in and is now SAFE! This is the beginning of his story, his new, much-deserved happy life. He had no chip, collar, or tags, and he has been posted with Lost Dog Illinois and other resources to look for an owner. No one has stepped forward.
Bear is safe with me while we look for a rescue to take him in. There are several that I work with, but they all need fosters. He is an amazing boy and the most polite house guest, a foster's dream!
I noticed that Bear was drooling, panting, and whining (all signs of pain). I looked in his mouth, and his back molars are completely rotten and inflamed. This poor guy is in extreme pain and has been for a long, long time!
I took him to my vet and was able to raise enough money for his initial vetting (pain pills included), but Bear desperately needs tooth extractions and a dental. His post got a lot of attention, and so many people offered to help if I did a GoFundMe, so here we are!
Below are some sweet pics of Bear, the invoice from his first vetting, and the estimate for the dental surgery and neuter (this way he only needs to be put under once), as well as his horrible back teeth.
If there is anything left over, it will go directly to the rescue that takes him.
Thank you all! He really is the sweetest, most gentle soul who deserves to be pain-free and loved.
All the best,
Michelle and Bear
