My little bro Steven and my parents Steve and Shari have been through ALOT. Steven has had 48 (yes you saw that correctly) surgeries. He is wheelchair bound due to Spina Bifida, and has been for most of his life. My dad Steve has been a ROCK through all of this, and has never complained, is patient, kind, hard working and humble. When I say humble, I mean it. He works so so hard, and is so dedicated to his family. My mom Shari has many medical issues herself, and as I write this she is in the hospital recovering from a major surgery.
What I want to do for my family, is raise enough funds for a much needed wheelchair van. Transporting a wheelchair is a pain in the ASS if you don't have the correct vehicle, and those vehicles are down right EXPENSIVE. My dad has been driving older (OLD) vehicles for YEARS, and the process to get Steven in and out of the car, and get his wheelchair apart (and yes I mean apart...seat cushion off, pedals removed, chair folded) is not an easy task to do multiple times a day. Not to mention the task for Steven himself to slide from wheel chair to car seat. And that wheelchair is HEAVY. Not to mention is unsafe, and could potentially cause harm to healed surgical sites.
We desperately need to get this MAN a VAN!!! A wheelchair van would be LIFE CHANGING for my family, and I hate to see my dad spending years of his life driving old beater cars, never knowing if it will even start in the morning. Steven needs to get back and forth to multiple medical appointments, never mind just be able to leave the house without the draining task of just getting into a car. My mother cannot lift the wheelchair so it is limited to my dad being able to do it...and he works a LOT.
What we take for granted is a major feat for my family. The cost to buy a van is more than they can handle, and I really truly want to be able to help them as soon as possible.
Please consider donating whatever you can to help this strong but tired family obtain something that is truly a medical necessity!
(And yes you see that pic correctly...Steven was one of Carrie Underwoods Champions on her tour, and got to meet her AND go on stage with her!! The highlight of probably his whole life!!!!!!
