May 2nd UPDATE : Bonbon will be going to boarding school soon!!
She is really excited and I know she is going to be the Best Student!
Thanks to all you generous donors Bonbon is going to get the help she needs sooner rather than later. Please follow me & Angela on IG for updates : @magsmuchocalor @deservingdogs

THANK YOU ALL for making this possible by helping to defray the costs of boarding & training this poor pup <3

This is Bonbon. Bonbon could never bite off more than she can chew : if you left the house for long enough, she’d chew up the entire world!

Bonbon needs to be boarded & trained for a month with someone who has deep experience w/ shut down dogs, so that she can unlearn her absolute mistrust of humans. The vet says she was probably an escapee from a puppy mill, as she seems to love other dogs.

When she was spotted in a supermarket parking lot in the Central Valley over the holidays, it took Animal Services a week to trap sweet Bonnie. She is wiley & flighty this one!
I saw her on Petfinder and applied right away; before I knew it I was picking her up the day after she’d been spayed. I didn’t really have a plan; no, I really didn’t have a plan. All I knew was this timid, shut down little puppy couldn’t spend another night in what was really a doggy version of solitary confinement @ Rykers.
Don’t get me wrong, the Animal Services folk (actually the police Dept) in this one horse town off the I-5 are absolutely amazing and do their best by all these animals. Bonbon didn’t fit in there, though, surrounded by Rottweiler and Shepherd mixes.

In the car on the way back, I wondered what she’d like to eat and assumed I’d be taking her out for a walk in the coming days, not realizing weeks would pass without her fully warming up to me. She trusts me enough to lick bacon grease from my fingers, but hell doing something as invasive as putting a leash on her is just too much for this fearful pup! I’ve bitten off more than I can chew :(
She saw the doggy shrink @ SPCA and unfortunately the short-acting meds had the opposite to the desired effect, making her very vocal (Serious high fives to my neighbours, who've been super tolerant & don't even know they are valued members of #TeamBonbon!). I do have hope that the longer-acting meds will help her in the long-term, but these need to be coupled with behavior modification training. And not just with any trainer, and not just weekly sessions.

I do fully understand that Bonbon may not be by my side for years to come, but I just want to make sure she’s by *someone’s* side. She is gonna be the Best Girl ever once she learns that not all of us are monsters like the people who did this to her and countless other poor dumb animals.
The good news is she saw her vet last week and is in the best of health. At just 1 year old, she’s got her whole life ahead of her once she gets the training she needs.
How can anyone watch this video of her playing with her doggy friend and suggest this dog should be euthanized? But euthansia is really the only option if she doesn't make an improvement soon, as it won't be possible to rehome such an undersocialized pup.

Please! If you can spare a few bucks for the Bonbon fund, #teamBonbon will get her to LA so that Angela @deservingDogs can work her magic on her. Anything helps! Thanks from the bottom of my heart; I’ll provide you all with updates on her progress.
