Prayers for Peyton

On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, I received a text from my best friend: "I'm heading to the ER."
He had been throwing up for several days, ultimately causing him to pass out from dehydration and hit his head on the way to the floor. Little did he, or any of us, know that his trip to the ER to look for signs of a concussion would find something much scarier: acute myeloid leukemia.
After spending several days in the hospital and undergoing numerous diagnostic tests, doctors still could not explain away Peyton's wonky bloodwork. He was anemic, amongst other things, which is unusual for an otherwise healthy, active 23-year-old. His doctors did their best, ruling out every possibility, and when one of them recommended a bone marrow biopsy, we thought, yet again, it was just to rule out the impossible. Roughly an hour and a half after the biopsy, though, I received a phone call I will never forget.
On Saturday, July 18, 2020, Peyton Yearick, my best friend in the whole world, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
From the second of his diagnosis, though scared and overwhelmed, Peyton has been ready to take on this fight. He remains positive and hopeful, as we all do, that he will have a speedy and full recovery. Peyton started chemotherapy treatment yesterday, July 21, just 24 hours after receiving his diagnosis. When I asked him if he was nervous, he replied, "No, I'm ready to start and get this cancer out of me. I'm sure there will be days that I feel awful, but I'm going to push through."
Peyton has always been a person I can count on, from the very beginning of our friendship, and I know he has held the hands of many through their difficult times. Now it is our turn to hold his.
I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of Peyton and his family in an attempt to alleviate some of the great financial burdens that accompany cancer treatment. Though his treatment has only just begun, and will hopefully be short-lived, it does not take long for medical bills to accumulate to an overwhelming degree. So now I ask you, in this season of difficulty, in the uncertainty that has shadowed this year of 2020, to provide a family with some certainty: that their son will be taken care of.
Whatever you can donate, no matter how big or small will be of help. If you are not able to donate, please consider sharing Peyton's story and sending prayers and positive thoughts his way.
All money raised will be used to pay for Peyton's medical expenses during this time. Treatment currently consists of chemotherapy but is subject to change in the future.
