We are thankful and tremendously blessed to have great family, friends and medical staff supporting us during this journey.
It has been a week and I still can't believe how fast life can change. Jay was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night, when a church group member notice Jay looking unwell with signs of heart trouble. Unfortunately, he was right. Jay had "atrial fibrillation" (aka AFIB). He had high white blood cell count, low hemoglobin and iron. So additional testing began.
They found a mass; while waiting on the results, Jay had a stroke. AFIB causes increased risk of stroke, so the medical team was monitoring and able to respond FAST!
There are a few aftereffects of the stroke that Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy are working on and a little numbness left on his right face and arm; but he is well on his path to complete recovery!
The testing did not come back in our favor and the word CANCER was introduced for the first time. Honestly, everything said afterwards was a blur. Cancer, Cancer, Cancer....that one word ringing in our ears.
He's only 47! How in the world can he have colon cancer? The next thought "GET IT OUT OF HIM".
Then the next shoe dropped, his heart is not yet strong enough for surgery.
His body needs time to heal from the stroke, before they go in and fix the heart, which must be strong before they do the cancer surgery. While we wait, he is getting chemo to shrink the tumor.
In the meantime, time will take its toll on finances. Jay will be out of work for a foreseeable future and Jill will be out of work to be with him through this crisis.

Thankfully, he has amazing insurance through MACI. Even after insurance, there will still be a income gap. This gap will last for a unknown stretch of time. We are trying to raise $5,000 to help close the financial gap for a little while. The more we raise, the more time we are able to give them to focus on the business of getting well, instead of worrying about which bill to pay to keep the roof over their head.
No gift is too small and anything you can spare will be appreciated. Regardless, if you could help us spread the word by sharing and encouraging any who can to help and to keep him surrounded by love and prayer.
