Hi! My name is Mattie, and I’m currently volunteering in Livingstone, Zambia through IVHQ for 2 weeks until May 31st at an incredible primary school called Wills Christian School. The children are so kind, curious, and full of potential—but the school simply doesn’t have the resources or supplies it needs to support them properly.

I’ve been teaching in a Grade 1 classroom with children aged 4-6 and the classrooms are desperate for supplies. There aren’t enough pencils or notebooks for all the children, many of them have to share chairs and the teachers use chalk on the walls. Even other basic necessities like minimal running water available, the toilets don’t have doors and there are no tables in any of the classrooms. Most of the children come to school in the morning with ripped shirts and dirty shoes.

Despite all this, the students and teachers show up every day with so much motivation and love for learning. I think we all know how much of an impact education makes to a community and a child’s potential in life.
