Hello Family, Friends, Co-workers, Fellow animal lovers, Total strangers with donations to pass out!
My name is Jamie Bertman.
I am currently the Senior Manager of my local Humane Society. I have been in Animal Welfare professionally since 2012. My Bachelor's in Non-Profit Management is from East Carolina University. I am excited to report that I am currently working towards my Bachelor's in Spanish.
After many years in the field I have discovered to continue my career goals of humane education, compassionate animal care, and reducing the euthanasia rate of shelter animals in N.C. I must be able to communicate to all people in my community. Thus my need to return to college for a degree in Spanish.
Upon the journey of re-entering school, I realized the need to study abroad. Of all the advice given to me, immersing my self in the culture seems to be the reoccurring theme. After some careful thought, I decided it wasn't for me to just visit Mexico, I wanted to take a trip that mattered and also allowed me to work on my language skills.
After joining the volunteer group Vet Techs Without Borders I was quickly approached about a need in the Yucatan Peninsula. A small group of people dedicated to providing low to no cost veterinary services to small villages with no access to care for their animals. Please check out their website: http://www.holboxspayneuter.com/
This is a 5 day trip scheduled for May 2020. Each day myself and fellow volunteers will spay and neuter 100-150 animals per day. We will also provide basic veterinary services such as vaccines and deworming to our patients.
Consider donating to help further my education, while also helping these animals and their families in need.
Your donations will help pay for the following:
Travel costs: ground and air transportation
Passport
Lodging
*If donations exceed my set goal the overage will be donated directly to Isla Holbox Spay Neuter Project*
