The sport of volleyball has changed my life forever.
I grew up a frustrated kid in a confusing world. Without volleyball, and the many amazing coaches I've had along my athletic journey, there's no telling where I would be. I always called it my healthy addiction. Without it, I wouldn't have grown into the woman I am today.
After completing my time as a student-athlete at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, my goal has always been to help spread that sweet addiction - that love - for the game.
I've coached volleyball in many different forms over the years. In the gym with more than 30 girls, one-on-one, on the court, and on the sand; and I've always felt like it's for a purpose bigger than teaching technique and strategy.
More than building just athletes, I'm trying to build strong young women. Much like my ERAU Athletic Director Steve Ridder used to say, "Student, person, player."
I like to think God shows himself in ways that show he has a divine meaning for your life. Boy, was he showing himself when he put Terri Bedford into my life at the ripe age of 18.
In 2005-2007, Terri was the coach at Gulf Coast Community College (now Gulf Coast State College) during my time playing volleyball at FCCJ (now Florida State College at Jacksonville) playing for Coach Mary Andrew. I was young, I was raw, and I was fiercely competitive.
Fast forward to 2019 and not much has changed about me. But, Terri is embarking on a life-changing journey to grow the game, not just through her Volley for Christ Ministry in Bay County, but GLOBALLY.
I'm honored she has asked me to join her on a Mission Trip to Thailand this summer to help teach and coach the sport of volleyball. What a blessing. What an opportunity.
To do this, we must fundraise. The cost is $2,500 per person. I hope to raise a little more to help out anyone else who would like to participate.
I would love your support. If you cannot give financially, I would very much appreciate your prayers and your blessings.
I have been given a gift. I would very much like to share it with young women of the world.
