VoicesGo
Hi,
My name is Roshan and I’m a student at Westview High School in San Diego, California. I am in Best Buddies, a club at my high school which pairs high school students with teens with a disability. In the last two years, I have spent time in classrooms that teach students with special needs. I noticed that students with communication devices are not allowed to keep their device upon graduation, because it’s the school district’s property. But it’s unthinkable to lose your voice. Communication is a human right and this problem also disproportionally affects socio-economically disadvantaged students. To address this problem, I created a website that provides resources for families, students, and school staff to help guide parents of students with special needs about how to procure a communication device.
My website is VoicesGo because I believe that voices and communication are active, and they should literally go everywhere.
I'm raising money for the following items for students and families that can't afford them:
- Apple iPads to use as communication devices
- Communication apps such as Proloquo2Go which costs $249.99 per app
- Costs associated with training families how to use these devices with their student
I hope you find my website useful and that school teams use this to help inform parents. And I appreciate you spreading the word.
Thank you!
