Theater is a profound tool for change. It slips in under our rational minds and speaks to our souls. Our goal is to use our artistry to inspire people to believe in Earth, and become active stewards on her behalf.  

We are here to enact a story that was prophesied 700 years ago, a story that warned, 'should humans continue to live under patriarchal domination, earth could become a wasteland'.

Voices of the Wells, produced by Theater for the Earth, is a company of eight multicultural women dancers and singers. We have adapted the ancient prophesy to address earth’s healing crisis of today by including indigenous poems of gratitude, joyful music, dance, and chant.

Led by a mother/daughter team,

Frederica Chapman who founded the company, has written the script for Voices of the Wells while Hilary Chapman directs the show. This project is rooted in a collaborative process where each cast member, in alignment with her own cultural sensibilities, will choreograph a part of the whole.

Although we all are facing extreme challenges with the current pandemic, earth and her waters continue to meet our most basic needs. These elements, essential to our lives, however, are under dire threat. With this in mind, we have made an exciting connection –  our outdoor performances will achieve greater impact and leverage when we partner with land trusts and environmental organizations! And as we make plans with the land trusts, we find that they are as excited as we!  

With your support we will mount our first shows at land trust sites in June, 2021 in Mid-coast Maine. Our purpose is clear; we are eager to express our passion for honoring earth and her sacred waters. Much work needs to be done. Monthly online cast meetings allow us to bond together as a company, and immerse ourselves into the script. Costumes and sets are being prepared, and equipment purchased.

Success will mean: that by the end of June Voices of the Wells and her cast are fully prepared to offer a stellar theater production, that many more environmental organizations invite us to perform outdoors in many more places, and (here’s the bold vision) that the transformative power of theater persuades more of us humans to become active stewards for our land and waters. We trust that our enthusiasm will spread, and that it will advance the tipping point for a planet able to sustain.
