Since 2011 we've been producing Here's The Story for PBS, an insightful, entertaining AND independent series about people that allows the subject of each episode to essentially tell their own story.
In 2022 we began filming the story of New Jersey's robust Poetry movement, the New Jersey Poetry Renaissance, and in early 2023 PBS premiered Voices in the Garden, our documentary about the subject.
That episode reverberated with the audience and resulted in calls for more of the same. So presently we are at work on a new series, an exploration and showcase of not only the talented Poets in the state, but also, the skilled Storytellers as well!
Voices in The Garden, the series, in the style of The Moth Radio Hour, will be a one-hour show featuring a live-on-stage Poetry/Storyteller reading with break-out profile interviews of those featured. It's not just about the Poetry and Prose. It will also be about the people, what has happened to them, what inspires and drives them, and how, despite our differences, we are all part of the same living human experience.
That's the good news, the bad news is that PBS is not able to fund our first season and we have no corporate sponsor, no grants or funding yet. A series of this nature typically costs roughly $90,000 a season, but we're only asking for $20,000 because we know the challenges everyone faces, and we'll do what we always do, whatever is possible to get it done, and done well.
We simply can't let this rare opportunity slip away!
The odds are against us, but they always are. They said what we've already accomplished wasn't possible, but we did it, we're doing it. They probably don't think we can get this done either, but we will, because that's the basis of every great success story. So, chip in what you can to prove them wrong, to prove that Poetry and great Storytelling have a place in our media landscape...and...so do we.
