Voice for Carrie Ann Lucas!

Donation protected

Carrie Ann Lucas is, in a word, a badass. Pardon my french. But it's true. Even though I'm honored to have been her friend for a few years now, when I was deciding what to write about her here I came across so much about her I didn't know because she's too humble to have ever even thought to mention them--things like, not only has she raised 4 beautiful children, all of whom live with disabilities, but she did so while advocating for all families affected by disability as a lead plaintiff in a 7+ year lawsuit against Kmart that resulted in the farthest-reaching accessibility class action settlement in history.

Not one to just want to practice law expertly (although she does that as well, as a Case Strategies Director), she also is the ED of Disabled Parents Rights. AND, she balanced her role as parent, advocate, and lawyer while running a fantastic campaign for Town Board in Windsor this past spring. Oh, and she also was part of the effort that preserved Medicaid access for us all when she participated and livestreamed the sit-ins at Sen. Cory Gardner's office last year to bring the action around the world.

Alright, I have more I want to say about how great Carrie Ann is, but the point is, we need her voice. And right now, we have a literal opportunity to give her back her voice.

A few weeks ago, Carrie Ann was hospitalized. She has written expertly on how our flawed healthcare system has failed her (and the rest of us), so I'll let her words speak for her, but the result is that she lost the ability to speak. She is able to type and has a machine that can speak for her, but those of you who know Carrie Ann can understand  that her work rested on her ability to speak, persuade, and spread her wisdom and passion through her language.

If we all give a little, we can help buy technology that will let her use a machine that uses a recording of her actual voice, as opposed to the pre-recorded ones (like the ones on an answering machine). She will be empowered to live her life while communicating in her own inflections, tones, and sassy attitudes.

If 60 of us commit just $25, we can make this a reality. Please join me today!
