Vodka - SHORT FILM

Donation protected
A 16 year old jewish girl deals with loss, humor, and reincarnation, by chugging a bottle of vodka before her grandmother's shiva.

This film came from a random place. I don't have any kind of relationship like the one in the film with my grandmother. She lives across the country and we talk once a year. However, I wanted to make a thank you to all the women in my life who have held my hand and helped me achieve my goals. Writing a film with such a unique and specific voice helped me find my niche as a screenwriter and makes me so excited for what this script has to offer. This story starts the afternoon of Ivys grandmothers shiva, which is a jewish tradition of a week long mourning period where people bring food and talk about memories of the deceased. Ivy, a 16 year old with a big personality living in a small town, feels pressure to live up to her grandmothers huge and colorful legacy.

We are so excited to announce that this film will be starring Iris Apatow.

Roxy Sophie Sorkin is a 20 year old student at NYU studying film and television. She has made two dozen short films, can bake a mean focaccia, and has two wiener dogs named Newton and Daphne. In the future, Roxy hopes to continue making pieces that bring smiles and representation towards minorities, womxn, and angry jewish grandmothers. Roxy's last film, Breastmilk, has been featured in film festivals across the world (hello Paris!) and won NFFTY's Audience Award.
