Sue's Cancer Fight

17 Aug 23 - Update on Sue's Cancer Fight - Today Sue met with the Surgeon. She will begin chemotherapy and have surgery at a later date. Sue will have another PET Scan in December to see if there is any more progression. They will also do a biopsy on another lymph node to check the condition of the right side of her groin. The surgeon is perplexed that the cancer has returned to the same groin area that has been previously dissected. He has advised us that her cancer has progressed and that she is now likely a stage 4 . Sue is hoping to be able to focus more on her recovery and less on the responsibilities that she previously put at the forefront of her fight. She continues to fight and is one of the strongest people I know. We thank you all for your continued support of Sue and her family. Sue's strongest statement in this fight is "In this family, no one fights alone".
In March 2020, Sue was diagnosed with stage 3 Melanoma. She endured a year of chemotherapy with monthly visits to the infusion center. Once chemotherapy was complete, Sue went through several tests and surgeries. She had a lymph node dissection surgery in August 2021 which almost took her life. Her recovery was estimated at 6 weeks but due to complications, her recovery period was over 3 months. Since then, Sue has had several PET scans which showed progress. She went into remission in September 2022.
Her latest PET scan in July has shown that the cancer has returned and is more aggressive and invasive than previous scans showed. Sue had a biopsy in August which confirmed that the cancer has returned and is now invading both sides of her groin. She is scheduled to meet with her surgeon and oncologist within the next 2 weeks. Her treatment options are surgery and another round of chemotherapy which will most likely last 2 years or more.
During her previous treatment course, Sue continued to work full-time with no time to focus on her recovery. This was very difficult on her body.
Sue's goal is to continue her fight with as much quality time with family and friends through her initial treatment process. In order to maximize her fight, it is recommended that she rest as much as possible after treatments. Sue is a dedicated employee and finds it difficult to take the time needed for herself as she feels responsible for her share of the family responsibilities. Your donation will enable her to take the necessary time needed to recover and fight the good fight. We thank you in advance and appreciate all of the love and support we continue to receive!
