Update 04/06/2024 @ 11:07 AM
Pupdate!!
It has been a week since we took Penny into the emergency vet knowing that we were going to have to make a very tough decision. That decision ended up being a surgery that would help save my baby.
We have seen Penny make some great strides since she has come home. She is able to get herself to stand up, move about her pen for food and water, and she has much more bathroom control. Proud doesn’t even begin to describe how I’m feeling about my Penny.
We couldn’t have done this without all of everyone’s help, prayers, and love. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart. ❤️
Update 03/31/2024 @ 6:07 PM
Once again, I cannot begin to thank everyone enough. Penny made it through surgery and she was a real trooper. She gets to come home on Tuesday! It will be a long couple of months getting her back to walking and having her strength, but her neurology team is very optimistic!
Update 03/31/2024 @ 9:50 am-
Thank you all so much for the overwhelming amount of support for my girl. The neurologist called a little bit ago to tell us that the MRI confirmed a disc has slipped toward the middle of her back and that is the source of her paralysis. All of her diagnostics came back and she is a very healthy pup. They are very confident and optimistic about this surgery. We should be getting a call sometime around noon with an update!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi everyone! This is my sweet girl, Penny. On Wednesday evening, Penny began limping and not acting like herself. We took her into West Park Animal Hospital and they told us that it was very likely she had IVDD, which is a spinal disc disease. They sent us home with some medicine and told us to put her on crate rest.
Over the last 48 hours, Penny has lost full movement in her back legs (paralysis), along with being able to control going to the bathroom. She has been in great spirits and snuggly as ever.
My family and I took her to the other emergency vet that West Park recommended. They let us know that with surgery it is very likely that Penny will be able to walk again.
It is going to be a long few weeks ahead of us with her healing, but the Vet said this is her best option to have a good quality of life.
As most of you know, I am a third year Special Education teacher. If you know anything about the public education system, you probably know that a surgery like this isn’t necessarily in my budget.
Please consider donating to help my girl get better. She is only 8 and has several good years left in her.
It means the world and I cannot begin to thank you enough.
