ALS battle
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
I have a crew mate that has been diagnosed with ALS and I am trying to help him out and raise some money to help him out
message from Greg
mostly focused around leg weakness. I stopped being able to run in the summer of 2022. I can only walk up steps with great effort, even with solid railing support on both sides. My walking speed on flat ground is also very slow. I am gradually losing my ability to walk.
After an extensive amount of testing (lots of blood work, MRI of brain, MRI of full spine, 3 EMG’s, and genetic testing), and consultations with 4 different neurologists…. I have been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. I was first diagnosed on March 29th, 2023. I am sorry to deliver such news this way. It would be emotionally difficult for me to tell each of you in person, and would take a fair bit of time.
ALS is a progressive disease, and for many people it is very fast moving. 50% of patients die within 3 years of diagnosis. For some people, they are literally in a wheelchair before they are diagnosed. I can still walk a limited distance (with a wobbly gait) and I use hiking poles for support more often. I am told that my progression seems to be slow, so that is good news. My lifespan could be in the 10 to 20+ year range, but it is all a big roll of the dice. Although I am in a tough position, and have a rough road ahead, I am generally in good spirits.
again I am just trying to help out a very good friend so anything you can do to help out is appreciated
