Bring Nana Home

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cortney, and I’m writing to share the story of my mom, Lori Becker, and to ask for your help in bringing our beloved “Nana” home.

My dad, Ed, met my mom Lori in high school and married her shortly after. They’ve remained devoted to each other for 44 years, to my brother Eddie and I, to their son-in-law Justin, and to their two grandchildren. To them, she is Nana! She has been an active grandmother, dedicated Payroll employee of the Snoqualmie Valley School District for 22 years, and a beloved member of her extended family. With all she has endured many of her passions such as sewing one-of-a-kind clothes and blankets, walking to get her grandson off the bus, taking spur of the moment shopping trips, and many more, have been thrown into jeopardy with one illness.

My mom Lori went to the hospital in pain on August 19, 2023. Within two hours she was rushed to a larger hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with sepsis—a life-threatening blood infection. Her body went into shock as this awful infection spread, devastating her organs and choking the blood supply to her arms and legs. Day after day her body battled, fighting the infection and refusing to yield.

Somehow, we got a miracle. My mom is still on this earth. We are so grateful to the tireless doctors, nurses, and staff at Overlake Hospital and the hundreds of people who have been praying for her and our family around the world. Thank you and bless you!
But there is still such a long way to go. Mom remains in the hospital to this day. She needs regular dialysis now and extensive rehab. Her hands and feet were damaged so badly they will not recover. She will lose her fingers and toes and likely one of her hands and one of her feet.

After 58 days in the ICU, the medical bills are huge. They will only grow larger as she prepares to leave the hospital and enter a rehab center for many days more. Despite health insurance and long-term care coverage, out-of-pocket expenses are around $60,000 and growing. My dad is renovating their home to make it wheelchair accessible and add other daily living aids, which will take $30,000 since he will provide most of the labor himself along with friends and family. The remaining $60,000 we hope to raise will be used for a wheelchair accessible vehicle, in-home medical equipment, and in-home nursing care.
My dad, Ed, remains constantly by Lori’s side. As do we all. But it is not enough. Mom will need daily care for the rest of her life, so we ask for your help. Please help us reach our goal and bring Nana home to her beloved grandchildren, who miss her dearly!

It breaks my heart to know my mom will likely never sew again, drive again, hold hands with her husband, and never braid her granddaughter’s hair, things that fed her soul and bring her so much joy! But at least we can bring Nana home to a house that is equipped for her needs and lessen the burden of medical bills. We ask for your prayers, and we are grateful for any gift you can make. No amount is too small, and every gift will be used to help bring Nana home.

Please share Lori’s story with as many people as possible and may you hold your own loved ones close.
Sincerely,
Cortney and Family
