Many of you know my brother as Dr. "Buddy” but all of his friends and many of his lifelong clients have known Buddy as a big hearted, loyal, trusted and an intensely private person.  For some of you reading this, you're learning of this information for the first time... In October of 2017, Buddy was diagnosed with oral cancer.  On December 23rd of 2017, Buddy began an extensive chemotherapy and radiation protocol which resulted in multiple hospital stays in Destin.  Unfortunately, by the end of May of 2018-THE CANCER RETURNED, this time on his tonsil. In July of 2018, Buddy had an aggressive eleven-hour surgery at University of Alabama at Birmingham to remove the metastatic masses on his tonsil.  This also included a week-long hospital stay, multiple follow up visits to UAB and many speech therapy rehabilitation visits as well.  Then yet again, in October of 2018, THE ORIGINAL CANCER RETURNED.  For the second time within 3 months Buddy endured another 10-hour surgery at UAB.  Unfortunately, we now learn that the surgical margins were not clean and Buddy would need additional treatment.  After Buddy's case was reviewed by UAB's Board of Peers, Buddy was referred to MD Anderson in Houston for "Proton Radiation Therapy" plus a recommendation for specialized treatment based on his cancer's genetic markers.   Proton Therapy was indicated to be Buddy's best chance for complete recovery and remission.  We're told, MD Anderson will not only treat Buddy's cancer, but his entire body including any dental issues caused by radiation.  Their mission is to prepare Buddy's body for treatment as well as his recovery.  Buddy's next journey is scheduled to begin the week after Thanksgiving.  For the next seven+ weeks Buddy and Pamela will have to relocate to Houston for Buddy's daily proton therapy and other treatments.  Now, the time has come to reach out to Buddy's friends, colleagues, Auburn's classmates and family to ask for your prayers, emotional and financial support. To help ease Buddy's financial burdens and mounting medical expenses we have set up this GoFundMe site to accept donations to help Buddy with his travel, relocation, housing and daily expenses associated with his treatment while in Houston as well as current and future medical bills. It is our goal that Buddy can be relieved of his financial worries as he begins his next journey at M.D. Anderson so he can concentrate on nothing other than his health, healing and recovery. "The Lord will fight for Buddy; he only needs to be still". Exodus 14:14.    Please consider joining Buddy in his fight against this horrible disease.  He is strong, but together we're stronger. Together we can make a difference in the life of this incredible man that has hepled so many others during his lifetime. Whatever your contribution; prayers, financial (big or small) or to simply share it on Facebook, it ALL makes a difference and will not go unnoticed.   On behalf of our family and friends of "Team Buddy'',  we sincerely express our deep appreciation for your prayers and blessings. Dr. Judi Martin, DVM If you would like to send Buddy a private message, please reach out to him at [email redacted]. Also, please feel free to share your special stories or memories you have about Buddy here in the comment section or on Facebook.  I am certain they will lift his spirits and put a smile in his heart.
