As many of you know, our best friend Trisha is planning for an upcoming move to Austin to study nutrition at UT as well as plan a wedding with the love of her life, Robert. However, in the midst of these great life events, we have all been devastated to find out that she has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a serious, potentially life-threatening cancer. As we all grapple with this news, the reality of the financial burden of medical care has been nothing less than astounding.
Although Trisha has health insurance, the amount of out of pocket cost before her coverage kicks in is extremely high: $6,000. She is scheduled to have a surgery this coming Thursday for which she needs to pay this amount and potentially more so that she can get her cancer removed and staged (i.e., find out how advanced the cancer is). We are hoping to gather as much support for her as possible over the next few days so that together we can help her meet the high cost of her care!
We won't know the specifics of what is to come until after the surgery when Trisha's cancer is staged, however we will keep you closely posted on her wellbeing.
