Lake Yojoa, Honduras Hurricane Relief Fund

Donation protected
Amid a record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season, Central America has been devastated by back-to-back major hurricanes. Hurricane Eta came ashore in Nicaragua on November 3, 2020, followed by Hurricane Iota only two weeks later. In Honduras alone, the combined effects from both storms have impacted millions of lives. Widespread flooding, landslides, and wind damage have left countless people homeless.

Fauna Ventures (www.faunaventures.com) has partnered with Robert Gallardo and Olivia Diaz, founding members of the Pro Nature Honduras Foundation-Pro-HN (www.prohn.org). Although the prime directives of their Foundation are not aimed toward natural disaster relief they have risen to the need to help those that have been directly affected by Hurricane Eta and now Iota.  While there are currently some relief efforts in place, we are seeking to target our aid to reach the Lake Yojoa region of Honduras. We are now working with a specific shelter in San Francisco de Yojoa to help three categories of people affected by these immense natural disasters. Firstly, those who have entirely lost their homes. Second, those whose homes are structurally unsafe to occupy, and finally, those who have lost belongings due to flooding. Other sites will be assessed in the short term by Robert and Olivia.

All funds will be wired directly to Robert Gallardo, President of Pro-HN in order to help Robert and Olivia purchase food, used clothing and other essential supplies for homeless victims in the vicinity of Lake Yojoa. Prior to the purchase of any and all items, the exact needs of the affected will be assessed. Examples of intended purchases include: building materials; seeds to replant crops; healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables; used clothing; washing and bathing supplies; and to fund logistics in order to mobilize goods.
