Didi’s life changed six years ago, when he arrived in New Bern, North Carolina, to begin middle school as an exchange student at The Epiphany School of Global Studies. His family had taken a leap of faith and sent him to the United States to pursue his education at a time when most of his peers in Haiti were reaching the end of their formal schooling. They knew that Didi’s options would be limited if he remained in Haiti, where less than 20% of eligible young adults enroll in high school.
Didi never took his family’s sacrifice for granted. He worked diligently and immersed himself in his new school and community. With each passing year, he became a stronger student and more confident leader. He will graduate this spring with a tremendous list of accomplishments, including being named captain of his soccer team, serving as secretary of Epiphany’s Student Senate, and helping his Science Olympiad team become a regional powerhouse. He will also graduate twice in the coming months as he earns his high school diploma and an Associate in Arts degree from Craven Community College. Didi has completed coursework during the summers and taken extra classes during the regular school year to complete this additional degree. Because of Didi’s efforts, he will be able to graduate with his bachelor’s degree in two years instead of four.
We, the people who have had the privilege of being in Didi’s life for the past six years, cannot imagine a young man more worthy of our support. It is our hope to raise $36,000 to help Didi’s college dreams come true. We want to celebrate his success the last six years and also ensure he is able to experience the future he has earned through his hard work and determined spirit.
Please join us in supporting this young man as he fulfills his goal of earning a business degree and ultimately using his experiences to support others, here and abroad.
