Michael's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Last week our nephew, Michael, was taken to CHOC emergency room with a bad stomachache. Within hours we learned Michael had a mass the size of a softball lodged in his abdomen. It took surgeons two days to determine how they could operate on the mass. Monday morning Michael underwent surgery. Within hours we learned they had removed the mass but also had to remove 1/3 of his stomach. Complications from this procedure led to the necessity of a feeding tube, which he has stitched in place. Right before the surgery ended pathology called and asked the surgeon to place a central venous catheter as well. It is implanted in Michael's chest and runs to his heart. The surgeons also had a Nasogastric tube inserted to relieve his stomach of any fluids.

After surgery we learned Michael will be unable to eat by mouth for months. More importantly, we learned that Michael had a gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a very rare form of cancer in children. It was Stage 2/3. He will now require chemotherapy. As of now there is no discharge date to speak of.

Due to the accumulating medical bills we have set up a fund to help his family in their time of need. They have been by his side day and night praying for his recovery. We ask that you share this page and Michael's story. Thank you for any help you can provide. God Bless!!
