Saving Mom's House

On February 10, 2020, my mother suffered the tragic and unexpected loss of her husband, Craig O’Neal, after 41 years of marriage. Our father was returning home from work when he had a heart attack. There were no warning signs, no preluding heart issues; he had no medical issues prior to his drive home from work that evening, he was only 60 years old. Craig was an amazing, caring, and loving husband, father to two children, grandfather to three grandchildren, as well as a retired Air Force Veteran of 20+ years.

While my Mother and our family are doing our best to deal with the loss of someone so precious to us, my Mother keeps receiving horrible news. A month after my father passed she is being told that the insurance settlements are not valid, due to the heart attack being deemed natural causes. The mortgage company, for their home of over 15 years, is going to be foreclosing on their property, unless she can pay it off in one lump sum. The creditor for her vehicle is also telling her the same thing. My Mom and Dad had just started the ball rolling on her small business in January, so income and equity in that is none. There is nothing coming back from the insurance settlements that will allow her to pay off the home and vehicle, let alone continue to pay monthly bills. Our parents have lived in that home for over 15 years, the memories within it are all my Mom has left of their life together. Our parents spent over 41 years gathering memories and every bit of it is stored in their home. It is the place that their grandchildren come to for summers and school breaks. It is where the family gathers for holidays. And now, shortly after losing her true love, best friend, and soulmate, my Mom is losing everything she has. Everything will be taken away from her during the worst moment of her life. Our family is scrambling to help. We are selling what we can, my Mom is looking for a job for a steady income, we are talking to every one that can possibly help find a way for her to keep what she calls home; to keep her vehicle. But we are running out of options and time. We are praying that starting a fund for our Mom will help her keep what her and our Father built. To keep all that she holds dear to her, to our family, while continuing to process the loss of her soulmate and our Dad. We thank you for taking the time to read this and are ever so appreciative of any help my Mom may receive. It means so much to our family to make sure this tragic nightmare can come to an end for our Mom, so she can grieve the loss of her husband in a place that holds so many memories of love, family, and devotion that the two of them shared.
