My mom, Paula, was recently diagnosed with stage III cancer. Please help us raise funds for her during this difficult time.
So far, she has had multiple appointments at the hospital meeting with various team members, from surgical to oncology. She has had an MRI and PET scan done. She also attended an educational class to learn what the next few months of her life will look like, and learn what side effects she may encounter. She began Chemo/Radiation 7/21 which she will have to go into the hospital five days a week for, for about 6 weeks. She will eventually need surgery, possibly multiple surgeries.
Just recently, she has been out of work pending an unrelated surgery (which is now on hold due to the urgency to start treatment), and may not be able to return to work once she starts treatment. Her immune system will be compromised, and there is still a lot of uncertainty with Covid-19 at this time. She works at a hospital and would be coming in contact with people regularly.
There is always fear and anxiety with any diagnosis, especially cancer, yet she has been able to keep a positive attitude. She has been spending a lot of her time in her garden to keep herself busy and her mind focused. She loves having deer and small animals visit and has numerous bird feeders and even a bat house in the yard.
Her boyfriend, Jim and I have been there for all of her appointments to support her. I was there the day they told her, and it didn't feel real at the time. Working as a nurse I hear bad news everyday, but never about my own mother.
She originally did not want a fundraiser because she is very private and doesn't like to ask for help. She has always been one to give everything and take nothing. I believe she will need more help than she knows once her medical bills start being processed, on top of being out of work.
