Desiree Smiths Standing glider
Donation protected
Desiree Smith was involved in a horrible car accident on November 1 2014 in Marion AR. She was three months pregnant and actually on her way to pick up cookies for her reveal shower later that day. As a result of the accident, she is now paralyzed from the chest down with limited fine motor skills in her hands. Desiree spent the next 3 1/2 months at Regional One in Memphis trying to regain mobility while protecting her unborn baby girl. Sweet Tessa was a fighter like her mom and was born on February 11 at just over 3lbs. She is truly a miracle and we feel God has great plans for her sweet soul! Unfortunately Desiree didn't get to experience all the sweet bonding moments that most moms get from nurturing their precious baby after birth. Only 11 days after delivering Tessa, Desiree had to leave her still very sick baby and 2 1/2 year old son to transfer to Shepards's Center in Atlanta, GA, a rehabilitation hospital for spinal cord injuries. Desiree's mother traveled to Atlanta and stayed diligently by her side during her stay at Shepard's for the much needed physical and emotional support. Her husband, along with lots of friends and family, was able to bring their son Drayden for visits in between working and looking after Tessa who was still in the hospital in Memphis. After 11 weeks of intense therapy to try and regain mobility again and learning to navigate in a wheelchair, Desiree was able to return home and reunite with baby Tessa and introduce Drayden to his baby sister for the first time.
Desiree continues to receive therapy several times a week at home and has the normal struggles of a mom of a preemie baby and a rowdy 3 year old boy, except she does it from a wheelchair. She needs a standing glider that Medicaid does not pay for. The standing glider will help her with the stretching her legs and arms, hip rotation, exercise, upper body strength, circulation, pressure sores, and increase her overall emotional health as well.
We need to raise at least $6000 to pay for the standing glider. With the grace of God and all of the new technology for spinal cord injuries, Dez is determined to keep fighting to WALK again and chase after her kids! She has been incredibly strong and handled a lot for a 23 year old mom of two. Any donation that you can offer is truly a blessing and greatly appreciated. Please help Desiree achieve her goal to walk again and be a part of a wonderful life changing miracle! How awesome it would be to see her standing and hopefully walking on her own and being able to play with her kids!
We prayerfully ask that you donate and please, please share on your personal social media pages and forward this to your friends via to help us spread the word about Desiree!
