Brighton Family Loses Home to Fire
Donation protected
Friday, May 22, 2015 began a normal morning in the Green Oak home of Sally Robbins and her 9 year old, 4th grade daughter who attends Hawkins Elementary school. What began as a simple task to dry a shirt for work, ended with a devastating trail left by a lint fire and the destruction of their home. The local responders from our town and the surrounding towns amassed over 20 vehicles valiantly and courageously trying to save their home. Between the flames, smoke, foam, and toxic air, the home is beyond repair. The weight-loading beams are damaged and charred and the structure completely unsafe. Thankfully the small family, along with their deaf cat, were able to get out unharmed. However, the only remaining items to mark their lives after 10 years in this home are the clothes they had on that morning, and their car. Everything from clothing and shoes, pots and pans, towels and sheets, to food and toilet paper must be replaced. Insurance will not kick in soon enough nor be enough. Your kindness and help to assist them as they move forward would be greatly appreciated as all funds will be helping them renew their lives.Hawkins Elementary will be hosting a drive for the Robbins Family until June 5th. We know that the family is in need of the following items:
- Gift cards for Target, Meijer, Costco, restaurants
- Books for Mikeala (4th grader), she loves to read mysteries and lost every book she owns
- Girl’s clothing size 14, shoe size 4
- Any kitchen supplies and items
All items can be delivered to Hawkins Elementary prior to June 5th.T
