TRANSPORTATION COSTS FOR ADAM GLASS FOR ONE YEAR
Dianne Glass's son Adam has cerebral palsy and is significantly disabled. One of the aspects of this disability is that he heavily relies on ritual and habit to navigate his day. If the things he depends on are not there or do not happen he is severely affected by it and will self-harm.
Until a few months ago, he took the bus. The bus driver let him press the button to open and close the door when he got on the bus and when he left. This has been going on without incident for years. When a new bus driver began on Adam's route, he refused to let him continue this very simple act, citing issues of security. Adam does not understand why he can no longer do something he has done and relied on for years and has self-harmed in reaction to this new rule. So now, Adam can no longer ride the bus.
Dianne went to CBC, her MP and MHA to seek support but was unsuccessful. Since then, she has had to taxi Adam to and from where he needs to go. Dianne works incredibly hard as a cook for the Duke of Duckworth. Pulling double shifts is the norm with her. But the additional 400.00 a month expense for taxis is near impossible to maintain on her already stretched budget.
Dianne is fiercely independent. She tends to her life herself and never asks for help from anyone. She has done her best without any real government assistance since Adam has been born. In fact, the lack of assistance is shocking.
This has become a real issue for her and she needs our support. This campaign will cover taxi costs for Adam for one year while she continues to petition changes to bus regulations. Please consider donating, every little but helps.
