Get the Ganesans Back on Track

On January 4th, 2015, Mamta Ganesan and her son, Vyasar, moved to the Radha Madhav Dham Hindu Temple in Austin, TX. The Ganesans had been living in Austin since 1991, and were a part of the temple community since 1992. It had been Mamta's dream to move to the temple for years, and when Vyasar got his masters degree from Columbia in 2014, they were able to sell the house, pack it all up, and move to 240 acres of beautiful Texas Hill Country.


On May 23rd, 2015, at around 10:40 pm, lightning struck the roof of their home and started a fire. No one was home. Vyasar arrived in time to see the smoke and was able to call the fire department in time. After fighting the fire for more than 14 hours, the house was a mess. The combined damage from smoke, water and fire, not to mention the almost total collapse of the roof, destroyed nearly all of their belongings.


We're not looking for handouts. We're trying to get our lives back on track. This storm raging through central Texas has already claimed many lives, destroyed many homes. We're grateful that we have our health, a few clothes and some books, but there are still so many things we're missing. We won't know the full extent of the damage, of what  we've lost, for a long time to come.
