Vivian Yoon Care Fund

On February 20th, our dear friend Vivian Yoon suffered a serious Hemorrhagic Stroke while teaching yoga at her happy place, It’s Yoga. The right side of her body has been affected, and she has severe Aphasia and Apraxia. Vivian received amazing initial care at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and then was transferred to TriHealth Rehabilitation Hospital on March 9th.

Before this tragic event, Vivian was the sole provider financially and emotionally for her family. Besides her role as a yoga instructor, she works as a director in the supply chain industry and was also taking classes toward a Nursing degree as her next career move. In addition to living with and caring for her 84-year-old mother, Julie, Vivian has 3 beautiful kids - Nicole (27), Ava (22) and Kio (20). Nicole lives and works in New York City but flew home immediately and is currently on leave from her job to be the full-time caretaker and provider for Vivian and Julie in Cincinnati. Ava is graduating from Boston College this Spring and will be moving home to help care for their family at the end of the semester, while Kio is also at BC finishing up his Junior year.

Vivian’s care team of nurses, aides, physical, occupational and speech therapists have been incredible at TriHealth. Vivian also has many other staff cheering her on during this time. She has a very long road ahead of her as she is learning to walk, complete tasks of daily living, and communicate again.

Unfortunately, insurance will only cover a certain number of days at TriHealth. Despite the fact that Vivan is not clinically ready to leave the facility, insurance has informed Nicole that they will no longer be covering her current care as of Saturday, April 1. This means that the only option will be to move Vivan to a less-intensive facility that will not cater to her specific stroke-recovery needs.

Through this fundraiser, we are hoping to immediately raise enough money to pay out of pocket and allow Vivian to continue to receive the care that she truly needs at TriHealth. Further, this fundraiser will help the Yoon family with the long road ahead, including months of at-home rehab, medical bills, and other expenses.
