Many of you may have heard that one of our own, Vivian Bush lost her home and her beloved cat Tahini in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 22nd.
On Saturday morning, Vivian was awakened by a loud popping noise. She investigated but couldn’t identify the source, then her faithful cats alerted her that something was seriously wrong as they bolted to the basement. Smoke detectors started going off and when she discovered that her garage was on fire, she had no choice but to run out of the house with only the clothes on her back and her phone.
She was able to get herself to safety but unfortunately was unable to go after her treasured pets as her cars in the driveway caught fire and the house began burning out of control. Vivian, her neighbors, and friends watched the house go up in flames, helpless to do anything. Once the flames had been put out, fire personnel went into the basement to look for her cats. Unfortunately, while they tried to save both, Tahini did not make it. Tahini’s sister, Tanoose was treated with oxygen and then was checked out at the emergency vet the next day due to severe smoke inhalation.
All of you who know Vivian—know that she is the first person in line to help others and she has been this way her entire life. She is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. She has dedicated her life to helping others and championing underdogs. Vivian’s chosen profession led her to her role as principal at the Sussex Consortium. For those that do not know, this local school is dedicated to educating and supporting students with special needs to become productive, socially connected, and personally fulfilled members of our community.
Vivian has lost everything—everything she worked so hard for in this life. She lost her home, her cars, including her beloved Figgy, and the car her father left her after he passed. It’s hard to imagine losing EVERYTHING, but that is what has happened. The most painful is the loss of her beautiful cat, Tahini.
This next year is going to be difficult, a road no one should have to travel.
As her sisters, we are asking that you please take a moment to send our little sister your positive thoughts and love, and if you are able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Vivian has touched all of us with her humor, compassion, and genuine kindness, hopefully we can return that compassion.
Thank you.
