Helping Celebrate the Life of my mom Vivian Anisa Lee
It is with a heavy heart that I post this message.
My mother, Vivian Lee, passed away early in the morning of Wednesday, September 5th. I now find myself in a position that I wouldn't wish on anyone: I am forced to say goodbye to my mother much sooner than I could have ever anticipated.
My mother's life was cut short at the young age of 59. After collapsing at home this past Sunday, she never regained consciousness. It was all so sudden, and certainly unexpected. It's almost impossible to believe.
Those who were fortunate to have known my mother knew her by her generous heart and beautiful spirit. Her energy was incredible and inspiring to so many. I want to do that spirit justice by ensuring that she rest in peace.
Though my mother was a licensed social worker most of her life, she was on disability at the time of her passing. Medical bills had mounted, and money was tight. And as anyone who has lost a loved one knows, funeral services and burials are extremely costly -- posing an even greater financial strain for me as her only child.
So I humbly turn to you, the community who knew her and loved her, to seek your help in giving my mother the send-off she deserves. Any amount you can afford is greatly appreciated.
As far back as I can remember, my mother would always say: "You're the reason I was born," and I'd always reply "You're the reason I'm alive." It's hard to accept that we'll never again have that daily exchange, but I know her memory will live with me forever.
