Viva La Vida! Volunteering at Costa Rica
Donation protected
Hello everyone! Our names are Delcina and Michelle, and we're both juniors at KIPP NYC College Prep, located in the South Bronx. We have been accepted to a program called AMIGOS De Las Américas, which will allow us to travel to Latin America, specifically Costa Rica, this summer! We are very excited to be a part of this fantastic experience together!
AMIGOS is a non-profit volunteer abroad program that lets high school students travel to countries in Latin America to provide community service and gain wonderful life experiences. Through this program, we can improve our Spanish, volunteer, gain leadership skills, and meet lifelong friends. This program builds our knowledge of Latin culture and allows us to dig deep and observe other cultures and practices. For example, Amigos offers the La Brunca program, where students can visit local communities led by women's organizations. With this, individuals can also build their knowledge of farming and environmental conservation. Yet it doesn't stop there; other projects like Olas y Cero's center around making efforts in the communities of Costa Rica to adapt to climate change. Volunteers like me can get hands-on experience with local conservation projects. By living with a host family, I'll also get exposure to Tico culture and dig into the root of climate change in Costa Rican local communities. The programs AMIGOS has offered will yield unique experiences and life lessons. We are excited to participate and share responsibility for our beautiful global community.
Although we are confirmed to go, there will be some funds that we have to provide for this program, and we are collaboratively asking for your support! We have a goal to raise $4,000 by May 15, 2024. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will contribute. Thank you so much for reading and allowing us to share :)
