Vitaly's DBS Surgery

Vitaly Dashchiyan has been dealing with an essential tremor that has been progressing immensely over the last 6 years. He is unable to independently and efficiently eat, hold a glass to drink, brush his teeth, shave, write, take pictures, type, etc. To help with this, Vitaly will be getting an extensive surgery called Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) on April 8th at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. There will be a second surgery to follow.
The first surgery is the DBS surgery where his surgeon will place leads in both sides of his brain. He will be in surgery up to 5-hours, sedated but awake. Throughout this procedure, another neurologist will be talking with Vitaly to have him do certain tests such as writing, talking, reading, holding a glass, etc. They want to make sure they are entering the leads into the proper position of the brain. After the first surgery, he will go back to have a battery placed under his collar bone that will be rechargeable and will talk to the brain to stop or reduce his tremors.
Insurance has approved his surgery, but there will still be an out of pocket maximum that needs to be reached. Additionally, he will be out of work for 4-8 weeks on an unpaid leave of absence. This $9,000 goal will directly cover the insurance deductible and some outstanding medical bills that have already been accumulated to prepare for this surgery.
