Hello. We are Joel and Andrea, and we run a small wildlife sanctuary caring for endangered and native Australian animals.

Our beautiful dingo Kela is not only part of our sanctuary — she’s part of our family. She is also the leader of her small dingo pack, but the last year has been incredibly hard on her. Dingoes pair for life, and she lost her mate, Kimba, last year. Only a few months later she was diagnosed with diabetes, and soon after, her eyesight began to fade — a common complication of the disease. Her grief took a toll on her health, bringing on illnesses usually seen in much older animals.

Kela still has space to roam in her large environment, and she goes for long daily walks with us and her dingo family. But we’ve watched her struggle as her vision rapidly declined. We’ve seen her go from a vibrant, confident dingo to one who now sits quietly, listening and smelling the world instead of seeing it. Losing her sight has also affected her ability to play, explore, and interact fully with the others.

But there is hope!

We’ve met with specialist veterinary ophthalmologists who work with zoo and endangered species, and they said they can restore Kela’s eyesight through cataract surgery. The procedure is straightforward, but the cost is far beyond what we can manage alone. We will cover all travel and aftercare, but we are hoping to raise as much of the $10,000 surgery cost as possible so Kela can return to her life with confidence — and with her family — as soon as possible.
