My name is Michelle Meeks. We lost our son after he came home from the military. He came home with medical injuries, not to mention mental issues. He wasn't able to get the help he needed from the VA after they got him hooked on pain meds and anxiety meds. While he was an active member, when he got home, he self-medicated and had mental issues from the military experiences and turned to drinking and drugs to deal.

His dad and I, not to mention other family members, dealt with this for about 10 years, and it wore me down. I wasn't even able to go to work and had to begin getting mental help for myself. Now, I am no longer able to work because I have a lot of anxiety issues, depression, and I hardly ever leave the house anymore. But I have it in my heart because my son was a very good person. He would stand up for anyone that was being picked on and would help anyone, giving them the shirt off his back.

I truly want to start a foundation in his honor to help others. He was a star football player at his high school, and I would love to start a scholarship for any student that may be struggling and wants to go to college. I would love to be able to establish a scholarship and foundation to help others.
