Virtual Water Run for the OHF

The Virtual Water Run for the OHF (Saturday, May 30th) raises money for the Oxalosis & Hyperoxaluria Foundation, a non-profit organization which supports research for the rare kidney-liver disease called Primary Hyperoxaluria.
My brother, George, is 15 years old and was diagnosed with Primary Hyperoxaluria Type 1, when he was 8 years old.
This means that his liver produces too much of a substance called oxalate, which builds up in the kidneys, causing kidney stones to form.
The damage caused by several kidney stones weakens the kidney's ability to function, which is why many patients with this disease experience kidney failure and must go on dialysis.
There is no cure for the disease, other than a double kidney-liver transplant.
George had about 10 kidney stones before he was diagnosed and had to have several surgeries to remove the stones. Today, he lives with significantly reduced kidney function, and must be on several medications. He also has to drink 4+ liters of water every day to help prevent kidney stones. Despite his illness, George approaches life with such a positive attitude, so this run is a fun way to honor him and support all children with Primary Hyperoxaluria.
