Along with so many New Yorkers, and people around the world, I was left without a job due to the mandated shut down of restaurants and bars due to COVID-19. This has left me and many others in a tough situation as rent and expenses are not stopping. The only option is to get creative here!
On Day 20 of “social distancing” (while in the middle of making homemade tomato sauce), I decided to turn my speakers out the window and play a mini concert for my neighbors in the courtyard behind my apartment. I was greeted with cheers and encores – how cool it was to be able to connect with the people I literally live on top of, in a time that feels so isolated and lonely.
I know this is a stressful time for all – we are all trying to navigate this “new normal”. Around the world and in my city, I’ve seen people cheer out their windows each night in unison for the hard-working nurses, doctors, and essential workers in our community. I decided I wanted to do my part – to spread some love and smiles the one way i know how. So, each night at 6:00pm and 7:00pm EDT I am going to turn my speakers out the window and play a live mini concert for my neighbors on the Upper East Side and around the world, via Instagram Live (@pianoman.cam), Facebook Live , and YouTube .
As a performer, tips have been the majority of my income over the past few years. I would love it if you tuned in – and if you are able to, send over a tip to my virtual fishbowl here on GoFundMe or Venmo.
(Also – if you have any song requests, let me know!)
