Hi
I am Virginia and I am going to ski in the World Speical Olympic games in Austria! in March 2017 , March 11 that is!
I've been skiing for a long time.
I love the mountains and the snow. I love the chair lift and cocoa! and I love to ski fast.
.
I am on a team and last year I got picked to ski in Austria.
I really want my family to be able to come see me ski.
Can you help?
love, Virginia
(Hi, I am Virginia's mom. ) Virginia has qualified to represent the USA at the Special Olympic World WInter Games in Austria in March of 2017. She is an Alpine skiier and will be on the USA Womens Alpine Racing Team. Virginia is the only Womens Alpine skier representing the state of Washington (there is another awesome woman on the nordic team!). Virginia is a freshman at Roosevelt High School in Seattle. You can follow her World Winter Games journey on a fb page I set up for her here ).
Virginia has been very fortuate that Special Olympics covers her costs for both the games and to travel to training camp in Vermont. She has also been very fortuate as she has been sponsored to purchase her own ski gear (she has always skied on rental gearhis is an exciting new thing for her).Virginia has Down syndrome, she is 16, and just an overall awesome kid. She is a good student, loves theater and writing. She loves the out of doors and cookin (she makes a fierce spaghetti sauce).
At the moment she would really like us (her parents), her sister Katie (she was her ski coach last year and has volunteered as a ski instructor for the last 3 years for the outdoors for all ski program where Virginia took ski lessons), her goofy twin brothers (Duncan and Cedric age 10) and her Nana to come see her ski. It is a once in a lifetime experience for them too!
Between plane tickets, food/lodging, transportation and ticket costs for events it is way out of our reach to have us all attend. If you would like to help us realize Virginia's dream (and ours) of her family watching her ski in the Special Olympic Winter Games, please donate. We will use the funds for plane fare, lodging, food, ground tranportation and tickets to the opening and closing cermonies.
All money donated will go to expenses for family travel. (Virginia is also setting up a Sound of Music gofund me, look here soon, as she really would like to go to Salzberg after the olympics) and a ski fund to help pay for her lessons and lift tickets to be able to continue to ski until she graduates from high school. See here if you think that kind of help is more your style).
Thanks so much everyone! We are so greatful to have Virginia, she is such an amazing girl. Thanks for helping us to see her realize one of her dreams!
