Virginia's Medical Equipment
Donation protected
Our mother, Virginia Usher, suffers from advanced dementia and cannot talk or walk. After six years, we finally rescued her from the nursing home in December of 2018. By the time we rescued her, she’d been hospitalized twice that year; once for a severe fall which left her head gashed and bloody, the other time for aspiration pneumonia (food had been shoved in her throat, causing it to gather in her lungs). We knew then that her coming home was a matter of life and death.
With the help of hospice, we were able to bring her home. Immediately, we started to see improvements. The past year and half have shown us that a safe, comfortable place full of love is sometimes the best care for those suffering from dementia.
We were notified that in two weeks she will be kicked off hospice (for the second time). While it is good news that she’s “graduated from hospice”, we now are left with the obstacle of trying to find the necessary medical equipment needed for her care. The assistance we received for her medical equipment the first time is not available. We’d like to buy her the items, including the medical equipment she needs so she can continue to receive the comfort and care she had while on hospice. This includes an electric bed, hoyer lift and the specialize wheelchair.
She does not qualify for Medicaid, so we pay for everything private pay, out of pocket. We are asking for assistance in helping us to purchase these items so we can continue to take care of her at home. We've priced how much it is to rent the equipment she currently has, and it will be a little over $600 a month. The goal is to purchase, and donate once we no longer need the equipment.
Thank you,
Ellen & Eileen Usher
