UPDATE Tues 1/23/24:
Virginia woke up from surgery today without her breathing tube and was able to ask questions and joke with the doctor . She has no memory from the weekend and has lots to catch up on, but we are SO thankful that she is okay! She will be in the ICU for another night or two, under careful watch.
Thank you all for your generosity and prayers, she definitely felt it, I know it!

Hi, my name is Lauran, I'm fundraising on behalf of my sister Virginia Bacon.
Virginia is currently in the hospital in the ICU after experiencing some complications post-surgery. She will be in hospital for 2 weeks + 2 weeks in a rehab facility while she regains her strength. This fund is to help with the expenses associated with caring for her pets over the next 4 weeks, and to give her a little financial cushion to support her when she's able to go home after her hospital stay.
Virginia doesn't have the same level of support in California, she's only been there a year and it's been tumultuous with many health issues, as well as the loss of her job last March.
Supporting her in this way during this scary time would mean so much to her. Donating will take a few things off of her plate while she heals and allow our family to spend more time caring for Virginia. No amount is too small.
$5 for a day of food for her dog, Cole
$25 for a dog walker
$65 for a day of pet sitting
$100 for a week of groceries....
See below for some details about Virginia's health, I'll update as we learn more:
Over this past year, Virginia has been dealing with some complicated health issues, including an infection in her abdomen, that resulted in a laparoscopic surgery on Friday, January 12th. However, when the surgeon attempted to go in laparoscopically, there was too much inflammation and scar tissue to continue with this method safely. So instead, they opted to use a larger incision to gain a better view and remove what was needed. As a result, she was kept at the hospital for a couple of days to ensure that the healing process began smoothly and that no post-operative infections arose. She was discharged from the hospital on Sunday, two days after surgery. While she was settling in at home, she began feeling nauseous and lost her appetite, and a post-op appointment was scheduled for Wednesday. At this appointment, her doctor was pleased and felt that the healing and progress was on track, but also was prescribed anti-nausea medication, which seemed to help with her appetite. Regardless, of the positive trust from her doctor, in her first week of recovery, V didn't seem to be feeling better. Her stomach then became very distended and on Friday night (8 days post op) and she noticed that it was becoming difficult to breathe. After careful observation, our mom decided to take her back to the ER where they admitted her quickly and began a second surgery. The second surgery revealed that her intestines had a tear that had been leaking waste into her body. She was then brought to the ICU and is considered to be in critical condition. The surgical team will be performing a third surgery today and she will remain in the hospital until she begins to make forward progress.
