Support Virago Women's Workshop

Hello Women! Here in Leeds we have a VERY exciting project underway. We have opened a women only workshop, think old skool 80's womens centre....

We've gearing up for our next programme of events, launching at our open evening on 6th July, do come by if you're anywhere near Leeds!

Following the success of our first edition of SCREECH (copies available if you missed it!) we are continuing our creative writing thread of courses, adding in a writers group and monthly discussion sessions inspired by our library and archive.

Lots of other creative and wellbeing workshops available too, monoprinting, artists books, weaving, storytelling, film nights and even some Cheese Appreciation nights, plus many more social evenings and clubs.

Our £20 a month membership scheme now includes all the clubs, all the regular monthly socials, film nights, discounts on specialist workshops, future editions of SCREECH and access to the library!

The library will finally become a "proper" lending library, analogue in its operating system, but still, you'll be able to take books to read at your leisure.

That's the exciting good news.

We would however like to say that all this is only made possible by the generosity of women like you and the support of our local volunteers. We have yet to receive any external funding. Because of this, a lot of our time and energy this summer is going in to a programme of fee paying workshops leading up to Christmas simply to pay the rent. What we would really like to offer are activities and events free to the women who need them, support groups, community groups etc. Right now though our focus is to break even! Such ambition, I know!

So we ask you to share our project with anyone you know and if you can, to continue to support us. Virago Women's Workshop has such potential, we want to reach it. The more women who come to our sessions, the more realise the value of a single sex space and understand why we are doing this.

We'll build on links with groups and services across the city to provide workshops, from CV writing to crochet, from wellbeing to woodwork.

This project will become a hub for women in Leeds and across Yorkshire, to drop in for a coffee and a rant, to learn a new skill, to access information, to enjoy company and support of a women only space.
