Meet Violet. Daughter to Amber and Matt Zimbrick and big sister to her baby brother Wyatt.
It started with a simple swelling over the eye that eventually turned black and purple. When it didn't seem as though it was going away, a couple trips to the doctor ultimately resulted in the discovery of something far more complicated.
Rhabdomyosarcoma. (RMS) A rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue. The tumor had formed behind Violet's left eye, signaled by the drooping eye (ptosis). Orbital RMS accounts for %10 of RMS cases, in which the tumor occurs behind the eye. There are an estimated 35 new cases of this per year.
The treatment recommended included 5-6 months of chemotherapy, with radiation during the final 2 months.
July 17th marked her first round of chemotherapy, and she is currently going into her 8th week of chemo.
Next month Amber and Matt are staying in Seattle for 6 weeks with Violet and their 1 year old, Wyatt, for a series of more intensive treatments, combining radiation with the chemotherapy. It is during this time that they will need our help the most.
In order for Amber to be with Violet during her treatments, while Matt watches their Wyatt, they have had to take off a substantial time from both their jobs, which will be a challenge financially. While they have done their best to be prepared for this inevitable trip and treatment for Violet, the cost of bills at home while also living in Seattle and not working will be a challenge.
Violet Jolee Zimbrick. It's hard to put into words what a wonderful and strong girl Violet is in just a few sentences. Five years old, and already her personality shines through as fierce, a protector, passionate, and continues to shine through as she goes through her rounds of chemotherapy. I know Violet is backed by a strong support system of Family and Friends, and I know we can all come together to help them in any way we possibly can.
I am also painting gold leaf ribbons for Childhood Cancer Awareness for anyone who donates. Send me a message with your address and I will mail you a painted ribbon. Thank you for supporting this wonderful family in need.
