Vin’s Campaign against Cancer
Many of you reading this are immediate or extended family or friends and know Vin & Connie Liscomb. Many of you we came to know us through business or we have helped in the way of marriage, financial counseling, or relational counseling, business counseling. We always treasure how we came to know each other, and pray for you all the time. Now we look to you.
Nine years ago while still working at his profession in Connecticut Vin was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and a strategy was set up with a renowned Urologist in New York City. It was called “Active surveillance” and consisted of controlled diet, exercise and high grade pharmaceutical natural vitamins. The area was frozen (cryotherapy) and eight years of control followed.
In 2016 the cancer seemed to have awakened, and Vin was referred to Duke University Cancer Center in North Carolina since he retired and lived in South Carolina. Duke is in Durham and its medical school is highly rated for its research and treatment of prostate cancer. It is known as the “City of Medicine”. Doctors at this center diagnosed what needed to be done and performed 5 ½ hours of extensive surgery. Vin tolerated the surgery well, and was discharged after 24 hours with a lengthy recuperation period now in progress.
The follow up with oncology doctors determined that it is now necessary to eliminate residual cancer cells at the site. They recommended hormone therapy shots and then 6 ½ weeks of radiation. This protocol has resulted in extreme success in remission and or cures at Duke and it has been performed thousands of times.
After much prayer and research into various options and discussions with our sons and family, Vin did not feel that changing to another Cancer Center would do anything but create delays, and given the fact that the doctors at Duke are highly qualified and compassionate and rated one of the best in the country, we have decided to continue treatments at Duke.
Now it is necessary to have daily treatments for about 6 ½ weeks after the hormone therapy treatment begins on February 22nd. The Duke Cancer Center is 3 hours and 15 minutes away from home in South Carolina making it necessary to remain in the area where the cancer center is located.
Vin and Connie are planning to stay at an extended stay hotel less than two miles from the treatment center; this hotel has a free shuttle service, and exercise room and pool needed to keep the body strong against the onset of drugs and radiation, and to maintain bone density.
This is a call to our family and many friends to unify in support of this cause. It is an overwhelming expense for one person, but a concerted effort by all will substantially lessen the impact of this and other expenses.
Will you stand in unity with Vin and help? The cost of the hotel and related expenses alone is estimated to be about $8500. This is our GOAL to meet.
We have already stayed at this hotel for over 22 days during the surgery, recuperation and appointments and we have paid for these expenses as well as all medical costs not covered by insurance.
How can you help? If you know other family or friends that may not be on Facebook or have a sphere of influence that you think might want to know about this please forward this onto them.
We have selected the website Go Fund Me as a secure website given its security, purpose and high recommendation from others. How do you make a donation?

We thank you and love you all for your prayers and concern, and look forward to sharing the success story to come. As many of you also know, Vin and Connie just celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on February 4, 2017. We look at our legacy of family, friends and memories. With 11 grandchildren, we have been truly blessed and desire more wonderful memories to look forward to. We will provide updates to all and we pray blessings to each and every one of you reading this.
