A safe place to rest your head. While many of us take this necessity for granted, far too many children around the world go without one every night. In Haiti, a safe place to rest has become increasingly scarce, as the gang violence that erupted in Port-au-Prince over the past two years has spread further across our country, even reaching our mountainside village in March.
Yet, we have a Good Shepherd, who watches over us day and night and provides for all of our needs. David sang of Him “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.” This year, we are especially thankful to our Good Shepherd for providing us with a good, strong building, where the orphans in our care were able to lie down and sleep in safety, even when the world outside was becoming an increasingly scary place.
Life in our town is slowly getting back to normal, but our children’s need for a safe place to sleep remains, so we are asking you to partner with us to cover our second biannual rent payment and guarantee their housing for the remainder of the year. If you haven't, we definitely encourage you to take a look at the video message above about how much our house means to them and to our staff and how grateful we are for your support!
Jesus says in Mark 9 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” It is our joy to welcome children from the most dangerous neighborhoods of our country into our mountainside orphanage in the name of our Lord, and we are committed to providing every child in our care with all of their most essential needs and with the support that they need to grow into the men and women God is calling them to be. Please keep us and our children in prayer and please prayerfully consider partnering with us through this year’s summer fundraiser.
This summer, we are setting a reach goal of $3500. This would include both the $3000 for rent and $500 to be applied to our general budget for medical care, staffing needs, and other essential expenses. We also want to take this moment to thank our local staff, who took great risks to care for our children over the past several months. We praise God for their courage and commitment to showing our children the love of Christ, even in times of great trial, and want to make sure that they are well-equipped to continue this valuable effort in the months ahead.
