Village Music School Instrument Drive

My name is Craig Klein and my newly wed daughter, Kelsey (a teacher), and her husband just moved to Lake Charles within the last year. After Hurricane Laura slammed into Lake Charles and devastated the area, Kelsey called me and asked if there was anything I could do to help one of her fellow teachers, Jeremy Boudreaux, who teaches music at the same school. Jeremy also has his own school called Village Music where he had over 50 music students and six teachers.
After Hurricane Laura tore the roof off of Village Music School and destroyed every instrument in it Jeremy says that he lost around $25,000 in instruments and sound gear. Two of the instruments were upright pianos, one over 100 years old. This was the first instrument he brought to the teaching studio. He also lost:
* 3 drum sets * an extensive cymbal collection * various snare drums * powered speakers * mixers * mics *cables * electronic drum set * 10 acoustic guitars * method books * a huge vinyl record collection.
So much. He’s on a waiting list for a climate controlled storage unit so he can at least try to save what’s been damaged and has a chance to be refurbished. Jeremy’s thought is that he can start teaching drums, his instrument, while he rebuilds. He knows that he can rebuild Village Music School and will make it better.
Music and musicians are essential.
I am a musician and went thru Hurricane Katrina where I lost every instrument I had except the one that was with me on tour. I know that feeling and I know the feeling of people stepping up and helping. That is what got me thru it. That’s how we do it.
