About Us
Founded in 2018, The Village Conservatory for Music Theatre is committed to providing high quality, alternative music theatre education in Manitoba. This is accomplished through an emphasis on strong triple-threat fundamentals (acting, singing, and dancing) and applying those fundamentals to the process of creation and collaboration. Above all, the ViC believes in the power of combining music and theatre, and in finding ways to use music and theatre to reach an audience.

The ViC currently provides artistic content and delivers instruction sessions for a part-time musical theatre training program presented by the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts: The Conservatory Musical Theatre program. Students are 18+, and come from a wide range of backgrounds. Over the course of 18 weeks, students receive weekly private instruction in singing, as well as weekly group instruction in dance, acting and theatre creation. In addition, students attend bi-weekly masterclasses with guest artists, with the goal of expanding their professional practice and perspective. The ViC also produces practical professional opportunities for these students, including a theatrical production and a monthly community musical theatre open mic.
The ViC is committed to innovating ways of creating theatre in a post COVID-19 world. We employ the latest innovations in digital live-streamed performance, and are committed to providing artists with the tools to reach audiences during times when gathering in large groups is unsafe.

Our Production
Funds raised by this campaign will go towards our 2021 theatrical production. Our production will be created and developed by the faculty and student body of the Conservatory Musical Theatre program over the course of our weekly theatre creation class. Starting in September, students will study various methods of creating theatre, including a traditional writing process, improvisation, devised theatre, songwriting, and visual art. The course will explore the different ways that music and theatre can interact, and the intersections of music and theatre as tools for storytelling.

The ViC production will provide a practicum experience for the students in the Conservatory Musical Theatre program to work alongside artist mentors to create and present in a full production. They will observe and participate in creation, rehearsal, refinement, and presentation of the final production. The final result will be performed within the Manitoba Government's health guidelines: either live, using a mixture of live and digitally streamed performances, or entirely digitally.

Funds raised in this campaign will support the production costs for the final production:
• venue rental
• traditional theatre equipment rental (lights, set, costumes)
• digital production equipment rental should we need to present the production online (cameras, microphones, high speed internet costs)
• professional artistic fees for the artist mentors involved in the rehearsal process and production
The goal of this initiative is to showcase our students' individual talents as well as give them the tools to help shape and discover their creative voices alongside professional mentors.

It takes a village to make a program run. We are always grateful to our sponsors and donors to help keep us growing The ViC to be the best it can be and we hope you will consider a donation to support this production.
