Vikings in Alaska
Tax deductible
You can make a difference by donating today to Asgard Alaska Incorporated.
Asgard Alaska’s mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire guests by providing opportunities for people to come together and experience Viking culture in the history-centric environments that we create.
With your help, we will build a permanent historic Norse settlement and campground in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough of Alaska. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, donations are usually 100% tax-deductible. Our unique cultural destination will enrich lives and promote healthy living as visitors experience Alaska’s majestic wilderness in a historical setting that recreates the art, culture and activities of civilizations long past.
The open-air museum will include a realistic Viking settlement, historic art recreations, and cultural exhibits. Volunteers and staff will create or acquire most of the exhibits once the grounds are available. Members and guests will be invited to dress and participate in activities the Vikings participated in. Some examples of these activities are cooking, archery, blacksmithing, swordplay, festivals, and more. Additionally, a large Viking longhouse will be constructed on the property where special events will be held.
Once the facilities are complete, school groups, scouting troops, historical re-enactment groups, and other organizations will be welcome to use the space for tours, camps, and retreats in Asgard Alaska’s unique environment. A campground will also provide tent sites and unique Viking turf houses/cabins for overnight guests.
This round of fundraising is to acquire a plot of land on which to build. Asgard Alaska began a fundraising campaign to purchase real estate in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough of Alaska which will be the site for our open-air historical museum and campground. We are currently shopping in the areas of Willow, Houston, Big Lake, and Wasilla, and estimate that cost of 40-80 acres of waterfront property with year-round road access will be approximately $240,000.
Not all land is created equally, and the location is important. In addition to the fundraising, we are also searching for a safe place with varied types of terrain to accommodate all the fun activities we have planned. Here are some features we want to see in the land we build on. It has to be:
- Accessible by road all year round
- Connected to a body of water or river/stream
- Made up of land that isn’t mostly wetlands
- Large enough to accommodate several different activities
- Near enough to be accessible by a sizeable population
- Remote enough to not disturb the neighbors
We are grateful for every donation we receive; no matter how large or small, and together we will build something amazing! For more information, visit our website.
