This is the GoFundMe for Vijay and Bhanu Ashar, created by their granddaughter Ami Asar.
On September 19, 2020 my grandparents, Vijay and Bhanu Ashar, both passed away. My grandfather had been suffering from Parkinson's Disease for the last 10 years. Just an hour after my grandfather passed, my grandmother had a fatal heart attack. They had never spent a day apart in their 53 years of marriage. They truly were soulmates.
Both of my grandparents were very proud of me for being the daughter of two immigrants and for being the first woman in our family to go to college. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities I have received. I have made this scholarship fund to create more academic opportunities and honor my grandparents.
My grandfather was incredibly intelligent and kindhearted. He strongly believed in equal educational opportunities for all children because he saw education as the window to the world. He was committed to helping the people around him in need and sought to make his community a better place. Above all, my grandfather was a man of principle. He embraced life's challenges with open arms as an opportunity to grow, and he taught me to do the same.
My grandmother was resilient and dedicated to those she loved. She had an iron will and never let any obstacle keep her from reaching her goals. She had a heart of service and valued community. She loved seeing our family come together and share a meal that she made. More than anything, she was committed to lifelong learning and teaching. Although she had never received a formal education, she taught herself English at the age of 65 and would practice her English with me.
Life will never be the same without my grandparents, and I am thankful for the lessons they have taught me and the love they have showed me. In order to continue their legacy, I am creating a scholarship fund for graduating seniors in my hometown of Brevard County who embody my grandparents' commitment to learning and serving others with the utmost integrity.
