Vietnam Emergency Food Aid
Summary
Up until this Summer, Vietnam has been among one of the world's best success stories in managing the pandemic. From the very early stages, they were able to keep the virus at bay by enforcing uncompromising lockdowns, strict border closures and it's own army run quarantine camp program.
Fast forward to Summer 2021, their victory over Covid has come to an end as they have been overrun by the Delta variant. Their recent surge in Covid infections amounted up to 737 deaths within a 24 hour span with no signs of slowing down.
Ho Chi Minh City and the entire southern region of Vietnam have been in lockdown since July when the delta variant started to spread rapidly. They are now undergoing one of the strictest lockdowns in history as an attempt to tackle this surge. Residents in high risks areas are no longer allowed to leave their house at all... Not even to buy groceries.
The Problem
"We say … people don't die from COVID, but die because of starvation. For the people who are living at the bottom of society — factory workers, people in the informal sector — things are terrible." — Tú Anh Lê, Da Nang resident
Those who once relied on going out to work to feed their families and provide a roof over their heads can no longer afford basic needs such as food and rent. As you can already imagine, in third world countries like Vietnam, there are no unemployment or stimulus cheques, nor any eviction protection to help them during these unprecedented times.
These people are stuck with little to no resources and limited food to get by. They are in desperate need of help to overcome these extremely harsh times.
The Solution
As Vietnam faces it's darkest period of the pandemic, we are calling on our friends, family and/or anyone who can offer help in alleviating this dire situation. They are solely relying on the army and volunteer programs to distribute food, there is simply not enough to go around.
100% of the proceeds (after transaction fees) will be sent to a non profit organization called Từ Tô Charity who have been authorized to distribute food aid packages. Each package costs $9.52cad and can feed a small household for up to a week. Each food aid package includes the following:
5kg of rice
10 packs of instant noodles
2 cans of fish
1 carton of eggs
1 soy sauce
1 cooking oil
1 bag of vegetables
No amount is ever too small, it all compounds when we come together
