Vietnam Covid-19 Food Relief Fundraiser
Hi, my name is Phan Nguyen and I am an MBA candidate at the Stanford Graduate School of Business in Palo Alto, California. I was born in Vietnam and grew up in Vietnam and Singapore, before attending and graduating from Yale University. My LinkedIn .
I am turning to you today to ask for your consideration in donating to my fundraiser to provide food relief to impoverished communities in Vietnam. I will personally match everyone's donations up to $2,000.
Many cities and regions across Vietnam have been in full lockdown since the first or second week of July 2021. Many neighborhoods in Ho Chi Minh City have been in lockdown since May 2021 when the first few dozens of cases were reported*. The surge in Covid cases is showing no sign of slowing down, which led me to expect the lockdown will continue for an indefinite period of time.
Micro and Small-to-medium businesses and vendors, which make up 98% of all enterprises in Vietnam**, are among the most vulnerable. This fundraiser aims to provide temporary food relief to impoverished communities and families who are the most impacted by Covid and its restrictions, by donating to local and community food relief efforts in Ho Chi Minh City and Phan Thiet city, Vietnam.
Thousands of workers who were laid off from factories and manufacturing plants are fleeing big cities or risk homelessness as they can no longer afford rent. Laid-off workers who do not have the means to move are stuck with no means to afford basic necessities such as shelter or food
